A small operation that does one thing
Golden Dunes is a family-run desert safari business working out of Abu Dhabi since 2015. We are not a large agency and we do not try to be. We run desert safaris and city tours in one emirate, at one dune field, and that is the whole of it.
In practice that means the person answering your WhatsApp message knows which driver is on tonight, what the camp is serving, and whether the dunes are busy. It is a short chain between you asking a question and someone who actually knows the answer, and it is the main advantage a small operator has over a booking platform.
What we actually do
We handle the booking, the transfers and the guest side of the trip. The camp at Al Khatim is a long-standing Bedouin-style camp that we have worked with for years, and the drivers are people we use week in and week out rather than whoever is available. We are telling you this because plenty of operators imply they own everything and most of them do not — the industry here runs on established partnerships, and pretending otherwise would be the first dishonest thing on this website.
Why Al Khatim and not the Dubai dunes
Most desert safaris sold in the UAE run to the Lahbab red dunes an hour outside Dubai, where the camps hold a thousand people and the dune drive is done nose to tail. Al Khatim sits fifty minutes inland from Abu Dhabi city, the camp takes fifty to eighty guests on an average night, and you can still see stars from it. If you are staying in Abu Dhabi it is also two hours less driving.
Four promises, in writing
These are on every page of this site because they are the things guests worry about before booking a desert safari, and they are the things we can actually control.
No deposit, ever
We do not take a deposit, a card number or an online payment. You book on WhatsApp, we confirm your pickup, and you pay at the camp. There is nothing to charge back because nothing has been charged.
Every price published
All fifteen packages and all nine camp add-ons are listed with the exact number on our prices page. Of the eight Abu Dhabi operators we checked, only two publish their add-on prices at all.
Free cancellation, 24 hours
Cancel or move your date free up to a day before pickup. Rescheduling is free too. If we cancel for weather you choose a new date or take a full refund.
A person, not a queue
WhatsApp goes to someone who knows the answer, not a ticketing system. Most messages are answered within a few minutes, at any hour.
Four things missing from this website
Every one of these is standard practice in this market. We have left all four out, and we would rather explain why than have you wonder.
No star ratings or review counts
You will not find “4.9 from 3,500 reviews” anywhere on this site, because we do not have 3,500 verified reviews and neither, in most cases, do the sites displaying that badge. Publishing a rating you cannot substantiate breaches Google’s structured data policy and is an offence under UAE consumer protection law. When we have real reviews on a platform anyone can check, we will link to them and not before.
No countdown timer
Several operators here run a “25% off, ends in 05:47:29” banner beside a clock that resets every time the page reloads. The discount is permanent and the urgency is invented. Our prices are simply our prices, on any day of the week, and there is no code to hunt for.
No online payment
We could take card payments and it would probably increase bookings. We do not, because the single most common worry guests have about booking a desert safari from abroad is paying a stranger on the internet and hoping a car turns up. Paying at the camp removes that entirely, and it puts the risk on us rather than on you.
No licence number on the site
We are going to be straight about this one because you may notice it. Our licence number is not published here. Of the eight Abu Dhabi safari operators we surveyed in August 2026, not one publishes theirs either — it is simply not the norm in this market. What we can offer instead is that you pay nothing until you are standing at the camp, which is a far stronger guarantee than a number on a page.

The things that make a dune drive safe
Dune bashing is the part guests are most excited and most nervous about. Four things make the difference, and all four are checkable — with us or with anyone else you book with.
The car. Toyota Land Cruisers with internal roll cages, not just factory pillars. Four-point belts in the rear, sand tyres, and suspension set up for dune work. Every vehicle is checked before it goes out.
The driver. This matters more than the vehicle. Dune driving is a specific skill and our drivers work the same twenty square kilometres every day. It is why the drive feels controlled rather than lucky.
Airing down. Tyres come down from about 35 psi to roughly 15 before the first dune, so the car floats over soft sand instead of digging in. If a driver does not stop to do this, something is wrong.
Never alone. Vehicles run in convoy or in radio contact, so a bogged car is pulled out in minutes rather than becoming an incident.
And the part most operators leave out: the intensity is entirely your call. Tell the driver you want it gentle and it will be gentle. Pregnant guests, anyone with heart, back or neck trouble, and children under three should sit the dune drive out — the camp is flat and every other part of the evening is open to them.
