A romantic desert safari, honestly
Proposal pages in this market are extraordinary things: a hundred candles, fifty roses, a neon sign, a videographer — and no price anywhere. Here is what a romantic evening in the Abu Dhabi desert actually costs, and where you should not propose.
- Sundowner AED 850
- Sunrise AED 1,000
- Overnight AED 450
- Private car AED 700–1,000
- Shared camp — read this first
We do not run a private-dune dinner. What we have is better light, quieter hours and honest pricing.

Read this before you book anything
Do not propose at a shared camp
We are going to talk ourselves out of a booking here. Our camp is shared. On a winter Saturday there can be well over a hundred people in it, a fire show at full volume, and a queue for the buffet. It is a wonderful evening and it is a terrible place to go down on one knee.
Propose on the dune, not at the camp
Ask the driver to stop on the way in, before the camp, while the light is still going. Ten minutes on an empty ridge with nobody else in sight. Tell us in advance and it costs nothing — it is the same route, just a pause in it.
Take the sunrise trip
AED 1,000 a head. Out before first light, dunes with nobody’s tracks on them, and the quietest thing we run by a wide margin. If a proposal is the point of the trip, this is the one we would book.
Private car, your own timing
AED 700, or AED 1,000 for the luxury Land Cruiser. Your driver, your stops, and nobody else in the vehicle. Combine it with the sundowner and you have the desert to yourselves for the part that matters.
That is a different product
Candles, roses, a private dune dinner and a photographer exists in this market at AED 2,000 and up, and full camp exclusivity is five figures. We do not sell it. Ask us and we will tell you honestly who does rather than improvise something at our camp.
Which trip
Sunrise or sundowner — and we would pick sunrise
Most couples book the evening because it is the obvious one. If romance is genuinely the point, the two quieter options are worth the money and here is why.
- Sunrise, AED 1,000Out before four, cold clean air, and a desert with nobody in it. Flat clean light rather than orange. Expensive because a whole crew goes out for one group — which is exactly what you are paying for.
- Sundowner, AED 850The last two hours of light with Arabic coffee on a ridge, before the evening crowd arrives. The light does what you came for and you are not sharing it with a hundred people.
- Overnight, AED 450The best value of the three. Stay after the day groups leave and the camp becomes quiet, the fire stays lit and the sky opens up. Breakfast before you drive back.
- Evening, AED 250The busiest and the cheapest. Genuinely good fun and not romantic in the way the photographs suggest. We would rather you knew.

Practical
Rings, sand, wind and other things nobody warns you about
Keep it zipped, not in a pocket
Sand swallows things instantly and permanently. A zipped inside pocket or a bag that stays in the vehicle until the moment. Do not hand it to anyone on a quad bike.
It picks up after dark
Anything light — petals, a note, a hat — is gone. Do the moment while the sun is still up if wind is forecast, and check with us the day before.
Ask the driver
Our drivers take a great many photographs and know where the light is. Tell him what you are planning and he will position the car and stay out of frame. It costs nothing.
There is none
No champagne, no bar. It is a family camp and alcohol is not served or permitted. If a toast matters to you, this is not the venue and we would rather say it here than have you arrive expecting one.
You can skip it
On a private car, say so and we take the graded track. Arriving calm and unrumpled is a reasonable thing to want on this particular evening.
Tell us early
A few days is enough for the sunrise trip and a private car. For a peak December or New Year date, give us a couple of weeks.
FAQs
Romantic safaris — your questions
Can I propose during the desert safari?
Yes, and not at the camp. Ask the driver to stop on a ridge on the way in, before the camp, while the light is still going — ten minutes with nobody else in sight. Tell us in advance and it costs nothing.
Is the romantic dinner private?
Ours is not. Our camp is shared with other guests every night, and on a winter weekend there can be well over a hundred people in it. Private dune dinners exist in this market at AED 2,000 and up. We do not sell one and will not pretend our camp is one.
How much does a desert proposal cost in Abu Dhabi?
With us, the cost of the safari and nothing more — from AED 850 for the sundowner or AED 1,000 for sunrise, plus a private car at AED 700 if you want it. A full setup with candles, roses and a photographer is a different product at AED 2,000 and up from operators who specialise in it.
Do you provide a photographer?
Not a professional one. Our drivers take good photographs and know the light, and they will do it for nothing if you ask. For a proper photographer, tell us and we will point you at someone.
Which is more romantic, sunrise or sundowner?
Sunrise, and it is not close. Empty desert, no tracks in the sand, and the quietest thing we run. The sundowner is second and the standard evening safari is a long way third.
Can we skip the dune bashing?
On a private car, yes — say so and we take the graded track. On a shared vehicle it depends on the rest of the group.
Is alcohol allowed? Can we have champagne?
No. It is a family camp and alcohol is not served or permitted. If a toast matters, this is not the venue.
Can we stay overnight as a couple?
Yes — AED 450 a head. It is the best value of the romantic options because the camp genuinely empties after the day groups leave.
How far in advance should we book?
A few days for most dates. Two weeks or more for December, New Year and Valentine’s.
Is it too hot in summer?
For an evening, yes, uncomfortably. From June to September take the sunrise trip instead — and it is the better one anyway.
What should we wear?
Something you do not mind sand in, closed shoes, and a layer each for after dark. The desert cools fast. More on the what to wear page.
Tell us what you are planning
Especially if it is a proposal. We will tell you the quietest option for your date and where the driver should stop.
