The trap
Which entry tickets are included, and which are not
This is the single thing that goes wrong on Abu Dhabi city tours. An operator quotes AED 100, you assume that covers the Louvre, and you find out at the door that it does not. So here is the whole cost stack in one table, including things we do not sell you.

How we do it
You pay us for the vehicle, the driver and the guiding. Entry tickets you buy at the door or we buy for you at cost — we do not mark them up and we do not bundle them into a number that makes comparison impossible. If a tour anywhere is priced below about AED 100 a head, assume every ticket is extra.

Two people, six people, same price
Because you are paying for the car. Two of you on the half day is AED 250 each; six of you is AED 83 each. If you are a couple and price is the deciding factor, a shared group tour elsewhere will be cheaper — we would rather say that than pretend otherwise.
Lunch and photography
Lunch at a buffet or a local restaurant is around AED 60 a head if you want it arranged, and a dedicated photographer starts at AED 50. Neither is pushed and neither is included by default.

The mosque
Everything you need to get into the Grand Mosque without a problem
It is free, it is open to non-Muslims, and it is the reason most people come. It also turns people away at the door every single day, almost always over clothing.
Ankle length, wrists, hair
Long, loose, opaque clothing to the ankle and the wrist, and hair covered. Not fitted, not sheer. A long dress with a scarf works; leggings and a long top do not.
Long trousers, sleeves
Full-length trousers and a shirt with sleeves. Shorts and sleeveless tops are refused, and men get turned away for this more often than they expect.
There is no abaya rental any more
Free abaya loan at the mosque ended in 2023, and a lot of tour pages have not updated. Bring your own covering or buy one nearby. We carry a small number in the car and we cannot promise one for everyone.
Visitor slots fill up
Free visitor slots are booked in advance and the busy ones go. We book yours as part of the tour — if you are going independently, do it yourself before you travel rather than turning up.
Closed to visitors 12:00–15:00
The prayer hall closes to visitors for Friday prayers. A Friday-lunchtime city tour is a broken itinerary and we will move you to the morning or the late afternoon.

The mosque runs its own free guided tours in English and Arabic, around 45 to 60 minutes. They are genuinely good and we build the timing around one.
Itinerary
A realistic half day, hour by hour
Any operator promising you three ticketed attractions in a half day is selling you a car ride past them. Four to five hours does two properly.
- 09:00CollectedFrom your hotel. Early start on purpose — the mosque is cooler and far less crowded before eleven.
- 09:30–11:00Sheikh Zayed Grand MosqueThe guided walk, then time to yourself in the courtyard. Ninety minutes is right; an hour feels rushed.
- 11:20–12:50Qasr Al Watan or the LouvreOne of the two, not both, unless you are doing a full day. Qasr Al Watan for the architecture and the library, the Louvre for the dome and the collection.
- 13:10–13:35Emirates PalaceA hotel rather than an attraction now. Worth twenty-five minutes for the lobby and the gold-flecked coffee, and worth knowing that is all it is.
- 13:45–14:05Corniche and Etihad TowersThe skyline photo stop, and a proper look at the water.
- ~14:30Back at your hotelOr straight on to Yas Island if you have added the afternoon.
A full day is eight hours and fits the mosque, Qasr Al Watan, the Louvre, the Corniche and lunch. Anything more than that in a day is a list, not a visit.
Straight opinions
What is worth your time, and what is padding
Every city tour in Abu Dhabi lists roughly the same six stops. They are not equally good, and pretending otherwise wastes your morning.
- Unmissable — Grand MosqueOne of the genuinely great buildings of the last century, and it costs nothing. If you do one thing in Abu Dhabi, this.
- Excellent — Qasr Al WatanA working presidential palace open to the public. The dome and the library are extraordinary and it is nothing like a museum.
- Excellent — Louvre Abu DhabiThe building is the exhibit. Go for the rain of light under the dome even if you are lukewarm on museums. Closed Mondays.
- Fine, briefly — Emirates PalaceA hotel. Beautiful lobby, twenty-five minutes, and the famous coffee is a café order rather than an attraction.
- Padding — Heritage VillageModest and quiet. It fills a gap in an itinerary. We will take you if you want it and we will not pretend it is a highlight.
- Padding — the dates marketSame story. Pleasant, quick, and mostly there to make the stop count look higher.
- A separate day — Ferrari WorldAround AED 299 and the whole afternoon. Do not let anyone sell it to you as a city tour stop.
FAQs
Abu Dhabi city tour — your questions
Is the Grand Mosque free?
Yes, entry costs nothing, and the mosque runs its own free guided walks in English and Arabic. Visitor slots are booked in advance though, and the busy ones fill.
Are entry tickets included in the tour price?
No, and we say so plainly rather than in small print. You pay us for the vehicle, driver and guiding. The mosque is free; Qasr Al Watan is AED 65 a head and the Louvre AED 63. We do not mark tickets up.
What should women wear?
Long, loose, opaque clothing covering ankles and wrists, and hair covered at the mosque. Leggings with a long top will not get you in. Elsewhere in the city, normal summer clothing is fine.
What should men wear?
Full-length trousers and sleeves at the mosque. Men get turned away for shorts more often than they expect.
Do they lend abayas at the mosque?
Not any more — that ended in 2023, and a lot of tour websites still say otherwise. Bring your own covering or buy one nearby. We carry a few in the car but cannot promise one for everyone.
Can I visit the mosque on a Friday?
Yes, but not between 12:00 and 15:00 when it closes to visitors for Friday prayers. We shift Friday tours to the morning or late afternoon.
Is the Louvre open every day?
No, it closes on Mondays. If your only free day is a Monday we build the tour around Qasr Al Watan instead.
How long does a city tour take?
Half day is four to five hours and does the mosque plus one ticketed attraction properly. A full day is about eight hours and does two, with lunch.
Can I do the mosque, Qasr Al Watan and the Louvre in a half day?
Not properly. You can drive past all three. Whether that is a tour is up to you, but it is not what we sell.
Is Ferrari World part of the city tour?
No. It is a full day on its own and AED 345 a head to get in. We can do the landmarks in the morning and drop you at Yas for the afternoon if you want both.
Is a city tour better than the hop-on bus?
If you want to move on your own schedule and stop where you like, the bus is decent value. If you want someone explaining what you are looking at and getting you to the mosque at the right hour, take a tour. We would rather you chose properly.
Can I combine a city tour with a desert safari?
Yes, and a lot of guests do — landmarks in the morning, desert in the afternoon. Message us and we will lay out the timing.
Is it private or shared?
Private — your own vehicle, your own pace, no waiting on other pickups. That is what the prices on this page buy. If you are only two people and cost is the priority, a shared group tour elsewhere will be cheaper.
