A cruise port day is a specific machine: you own the hours between the gangway opening and all-aboard, and every plan is judged by one number — how far from the ship does it put you at 4pm?
Abu Dhabi is generous on that arithmetic. The terminal sits in Zayed Port on the city side, the great sights are minutes to an hour away, and the desert — the thing this coast has that no other port on your itinerary does — is an hour from the quay. Here is the day, done honestly.

Gulf cruising is a winter trade — roughly October to April — which is also precisely the desert’s perfect season. A January port day in Abu Dhabi lands in the best weather of your whole itinerary, and it would be a shame to spend it entirely in a mall.
Taxis queue at the terminal and the city is easy solo; what a pre-booked car adds is the thing port days actually run on — a fixed plan against a fixed clock.
What one day does well — and what it does not
The honest shortlist for a single shore day: the Grand Mosque (free, and worth its full ninety minutes), then one of Qasr Al Watan or the Louvre, with the Corniche drive threading them together.
