Every safari company buries one fact: most of what you pay for on a “desert safari” is the ride there. Strip the pickup out and the evening itself — the same camp, the same dinner, the same shows as guests who paid three times more — costs thirty-five dirhams. If you have hired a car anyway, this is the best-value evening in the country, and this page is the honest manual for it.
How it works
You book on WhatsApp like everyone else — date, head count, no deposit. We send the camp’s location pin and the arrival window. You drive out in the late afternoon, park at the camp, and from that moment the evening is identical to every other guest’s: the short camel ride, sandboarding, gahwa and dates, henna, the three shows, unlimited soft drinks and the full BBQ buffet. You pay AED 35 a head at the camp, cash or card, and drive home under the stars.

The two honest catches
Catch one: dune bashing runs from the camp, not from your car. Your saloon car takes the graded track to the camp gate — it does not cross dunes, and nobody should try. The dune drive happens in our Land Cruisers from the camp side. The evening’s eighteen inclusions — dune bashing among them — are the same as every standard package; only the starting point moves.
Catch two: the drive back is yours, at night, after a long evening. An hour of highway at ten o’clock with sandy shoes and tired children is real. It is fine — thousands do it — but it is the part people forget to price in when they compare AED 35 against AED 100 with a driver.
The drive, and any car
The camp sits in the Al Khatim desert on the Abu Dhabi–Al Ain side: about an hour from the Corniche, forty minutes from the airport side of town. The route is ordinary sealed highway followed by a short graded approach that any car manages — hatchback, saloon, hire car, anything. You do not need a 4×4, and the pin we send goes to the gate, not to a dune.
Leave the city in daylight for your first visit — the last stretch is far easier to read before dark, and arriving for the sunset is the point anyway. Signal is fine along the road; the dunes are another story.
Arriving, parking, paying
Parking is at the camp, flat and free — you will see the line of guest cars as you arrive. Check in with the name on your WhatsApp booking, pay the AED 35 a head then and there (cash or card, VAT included, nothing was owed before), and the camp is yours for the evening.
Add-ons work exactly as they do for everyone else — quads from AED 100, the VIP seat with a back at AED 50, sheesha at 80 — all priced on the activities page, none of them pushed at you. Bring AED 100–200 in cash for extras and there is nothing else to plan.
When self-drive stops making sense
You have no car. Hiring one just for the evening cancels the saving — the AED 50 bus or the AED 100 hotel pickup wins.
Anyone wants to properly relax. A driver home at ten o’clock is worth AED 65 to a lot of people, and there is no shame in it.
Six or more of you. The private car at AED 599 starts beating everything else on comfort per dirham, and nobody drives.
For everyone else — the couple with the hire car, the resident family, the four friends splitting fuel — AED 35 is simply the honest price of the same evening.

Is dune bashing included in the AED 35 self-drive price?
Yes — the camp evening is the same eighteen things on every standard package, dune bashing included. The difference is only where it starts: your own car parks at the gate, and the dune drive happens from the camp in our Land Cruisers, since a saloon car cannot cross dunes.
Where exactly is the camp?

Is it safe to drive back at night?

Can I just turn up without booking?
Message first, even the same afternoon. The booking costs nothing and takes a minute, and it means your names are at the gate, the camp knows its numbers for dinner, and we can tell you if an evening is exceptionally busy.
